Hi! Our names are Russ and Sarah and we started Natural Smoke as a small online business, with a lot of passion and a big focus on bringing high quality smoking wood to the Australian BBQ community.
Our focus has always been relationships first and we spent months building connections with Australian fruit and nut farmers and other local businesses to source the best wood we could find, before launching our website in November of 2018.
We collect, process and package our wood on our small property about an hour south of Adelaide, near the small township of Myponga, with help from family and friends. We have no official employees, but work on our business after hours and on weekends, around our day jobs and family commitments. On weekends you’ll generally find us in the shed, cutting, splitting and bagging wood, or sharing our own BBQ with family and friends (using Natural Smoke wood of course!)
Since launching our website, we have expanded our range to include carefully selected Australian made rubs, sauces and BBQ fuel, all with the same focus on quality and supporting other small Australian businesses.
From Passion Comes Community
Barbeque in Australia brings an opportunity for people to come together, share stories over a meal and build connections with their wider community. Russ is an active member and supporter of the Australian BBQ community, with experience in judging Competition BBQ. He could (and often does!) spend hours sharing his knowledge on all things wood, BBQ and business.
As an owner of many styles of BBQ, from a small Weber Go Anywhere, Weber Kettle, Ugly Drum Smoker, Masterbuilt 1050, a self-built wood fired pizza oven, all the way up to a Wildfire Offset Smoker, Russ can answer almost any BBQ question, regardless of the type of BBQ you’re using. And being a family business, we’re just a phone call (or a Facebook message) away for any questions you might have, if things don’t seem to be going as planned.
What began 15 years ago as some experiments with an upright gas smoker, has turned into a love of all things BBQ and smoking, giving us Russ’s catchphrase which remains the focus of our business today.
